Regenerative Grazing Australia

Our History

Established in 2009, Regenerative Grazing Australia has been on this journey for over 15 years.

Purpose of this platform

Regenerative Grazing Australia (RGA) is an evolving platform with a clear purpose:

Regenerative Grazing once explained well is extremely common sense and once you have gained it's knowledge is very simple to do.

But nature is incredibly complex and far beyond we humans to ever fully understand. Thankfully her patterns are simple to follow if we tune in to her language.

However, management is an art, a craft and a science. Natures knowledge and patterns needs to be passed down and craft and skill set, continually sharpened.

This RGA website is an introduction portal (free, self help, self discovery) platform of recommendations by farmers for farmers, that capture and utilise learnings from great ecological and agribusiness insightful pioneers, innovators, early adopters, farmers, scientists and leading educators in many fields of regenerative grazing and associated fields that we deal with to operate a successful business - regenerative agriculture- agroforestry- offgrid living to name a few.

RGA goal is:

  •  to share ground breaking information of regenerative grazing and associated fields.
  • Knowledge is useless - - - - - unless you share it.
  • Regenerative grazing management as a key stone foundation factor due to the fact that 33% of the planet surface area is grasslands and grassy woodlands and are affected by our management.
  • This is a platform especially  to cater for young to old, up and coming work colleagues of farmers and want to be farmers - that have a thirst for knowledge in this field.
  • Provides a pathway to where to seek further knowledge or help in a particular area of interest.
  • Encourage diverse discussion:

Train of Thought

(A succession of connected ideas, a path of reasoning)

The content is designed to engage by visual presentation and sit down with a cuppa to explore.

If you seek more on knowledge on these introductory subject matter, a direction or stepping stone pathway is supplied to seek more knowledge supported by films, movies, documentaries, books, scientific research, workshops, field days of pioneers and leaders in these fields

Four Crucial Layers of Action farmers are asking for information:

We at Regenerative Grazing Australia produce a new topic each month so tune in.

2. Knowledge Sharing & Education

  Regenerative Grazing Australia (RGA)

Knowledge Sharing and Education Programs from cutting edge (current and past) pioneers in ecological, economical and social mediums with objective to ensure successful delivery of associated plans.

This educational and informative format encourages producers to expand their current expertise and learn new skills, be motivated by other producers and access the latest information. Producers gain the best of group and individual learning by working in small groups that enable them to receive personalised service.

You will see that we put a lot of emphasis on grazing of livestock and in particular our management of.

Reason is livestock are the most power tool we have.

Livestock have the greatest potential to affect us (either negatively or positively) across the quadruple bottom line of:

environmentally - economically- socially -and what we produce & market.

Through our management we can:

1. Degrade

2. Sustain at current state (sustainability)

or 3. Regenerate (at low medium or high levels)

A well known saying is:

It's not the cow!, it's the how!

Management is a key stone primary element & focus of Regenerative Grazing Australia (of all species under our management from domestic livestock such as cattle sheep, goats to native fauna)

Why Grazing & Management Emphasis:

Grasslands & Grassy Woodlands cover nearly 33%  of the Earth’s surface.

Impacting every species including humans on the planet yet we have been degrading her due to our mismanagement, these vast and fragile landscapes play along with our management and have  a critical role in ensuring a healthy future for us all.

3. Monitoring - Assessments- Analysis

  Regenerative Grazing Australia (RGA)

3. Monitoring - Assessments - Analysis:  to ensure desired outcomes are achieved:

  •  utilisation of independent auditors recommended by our industry to carry out verification and certifications of outcome claims.

There is a growing trend to commission external audits to verify that stated financial - environmental - social outcomes meets stakeholder and community  expectations and company commitments.

Performance analysis in professional sport and business has become an integral part of the coaching and operational process.

  • audited data to be used as overall performance outcomes to triple bottom line factors of:

1.Landscape. – 2. People . 3. Economical.

Research has shown that the Performance of a team is directly linked to the Cohesion of that team, whether it be in a family business, corporate or sporting environment.

4. Sourcing high quality key team members/partners

4. Sourcing high quality key team members and technology/ infrastructure/system partners

Delivery on these regenerative outcomes. In order to help provide objective information, we bring together a number of associated specialist technologies, and a network of independent sources, from entities like CSIRO, universities to leading private and community industry.

How is Regenerative Grazing different?

Following is a quote from John Ikerd.

(world renowned author, speaker & leader in sustainability)

Agriculture sustainability is a goal rather than a specific set of farming practises or methods.

Sustainability, as a goal, implies some basic principle and characteristics of sustainable systems.

A sustainable agriculture must be

ecologically sound, economically viable, and socially responsible -

-all are necessary and none sufficient.

Short run profitability is necessary, but not sufficient, to ensure long run sustainability.

In the sustainable paradigm, the environment and society are not seen as "constraints" to profitability, but are seen as essential prerequisites to long run economic viability.

The sustainable paradigm balances economic, environmental, and social concerns in moving toward systems which can sustain a desirable quality of human life on Earth indefinitely.

John Ikerd.

About Us: Regenerative Grazing Australia (RGA) Self Interest as a small agribusiness.

Just thought I best explain my personal self interest in Regenerative Grazing Australia and my work life area as part of me being transparent.

1. I have and plan to continue for a long time, operate as a hands-on land manager for regenerative pastoral properties along with my team mates of working kelpies & border collies

2.  I have supported my practical pastoral farm work experience (working commercial pastoral operations across the plains- mountainous Alpine highlands tothe coast to the edge of the desert of New Wales, Queensland, Northern Territory), by undergoing personal development education with a degree at Charles Sturt University in Ecological Agriculture Systems with further training such as approved professional Agribusiness Advisor for Land Restoration Fund (LRF) (Queensland Government) Carbon Farming and Co - Benefits of Biodiversity Offset projects.

Landscape Restoration Fund Approved Advisor Accreditation number 91075

3. Due to this work experience and training, I receive alot of questions from farmers & fellow work colleagues (young to old) such as the most popular question is:

How Do You Do this regenerative thing?

So rather than just a quick response, I have put together the following information to help farmers (young to old) gain knowledge in this field of interest and options to go to for help and key things to research

Please scroll across top for more chapters for some helpful knowledge of how to transition to a more regenerative approach of caring for country - making our farming more as John Ikerd so well says:

ecologically sound, economically viable, and socially responsible

Best wishes - Ray

  Regenerative Grazing Australia (RGA) Poem

Sustainable Agriculture: A Symphony of Balance

Agriculture's goal, beyond mere methods and ways, Sustainability shines, in principles it sways. Ecologically sound, where nature's whispers sing, Economically viable, prosperity it brings.

Socially responsible, with equity in sight, All are necessary, none alone is right. Short-term gains, a fleeting, fragile thread, Long-term vision, where true sustainability is bred.

In this paradigm, the environment and society, Are not constraints, but keys to viability. Balancing concerns, economic, social, and green, A future sustained, where life's quality is seen.

Regenerative grazing, common sense once known, Simple in practice, where nature's wisdom is shown. Complexity vast, beyond human grasp, Yet patterns simple, if we tune in and clasp.

Management, an art, a craft, a science pure, Nature's knowledge passed down, skills to endure. To the next generation, sharpened and bright, Sustainable agriculture, a beacon of light.

Best wishes - Ray Lord 2009
