This month we look down into Community

Train of thought

(A succession of connected ideas, a path of reasoning)

sustainable community takes into account, and addresses

sustainable community takes into account, and addresses, multiple human needs, not just one at the exclusion of all others. It is a place where people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives feel welcome and safe, where every group has a seat at the decision-making table, and where prosperity is shared.

It takes a long-term perspective – focusing on anticipating and adapting to change in both the present and future.

A sustainable community manages its human, natural, and financial capital to meet current needs while ensuring that adequate resources are available for future generations.

We work with communities, organisations, institutions and companies . We believe strong communities are the foundation of a peaceful and healthy planet for humanity. We have concluded that climate change, income inequality, and social injustice are the biggest threats to building strong, sustainable communities and hence these challenges define our current priorities.

This month we look into amazing people in our community

What is a Sustainable Community?

Throughout the world, people want the same things: access to clean air and water; economic opportunities; a safe and healthy country & place to raise their kids; shelter; lifelong learning; a sense of community; and the ability to have a say in the decisions that affect their lives.

Sustainability: definition with simple natural science

What is sustainability? In this explainer video, I present a simple definition of sustainability based on environmental science and natural cycles, as well as the four root causes of un-sustainability (the 4 things we need to stop doing for become sustainable). If this is useful to you, please subscribe: http://alturl.com/jc8u6 To learn more about The Natural Step, read "The Natural Step Story: Seeding a Quiet Revolution" by Karl-Henrik Robèrt: https://amzn.to/2VfCwLy We hear a lot about sustainable development, sustainability, ecology, climate, global warming, people planet profit, triple bottom line but can we define what sustainability is and how we can achieve it?

Staying Sober in the Country: Shanna Whan’s alcohol recovery story | Australian Story

Nov 18, 2019 #AustralianStory #SITC

When Shanna realised she was an alcoholic, she didn’t just decide to give up drinking. She started a one-woman campaign to start a conversation about drinking culture in the bush.  And she took the brave step of going public with her own 20-year battle with the bottle, as a way of encouraging others who want to change to step forward and seek help.  Now her online community "Sober in the Country" is spreading the message throughout the bush: "It’s OK to say no to a beer."  Read more here: https://ab.co/348Eeji #AustralianStory #SITC
